5A 4. Beneficial diet (in Vataja Shula)

A. Pulses : Kulith (horse gram)
B. Fruits : Bor and pomegranate
C. Meat : Meat of birds, deer, mutton and chicken
D. Milk products and other : Milk, curds, ghee and buttermilk
E. Spices : Asafoetida, pepper, ajamoda (celery), coriander, cumin seeds and garlic.
F. One should eat sweet, sour and salty food items
G. Avoid pungent, bitter, dry and astringent food items.
H. Oil
5B. Pittaja colic
5B 1. Causes
A. Eating fermented, pungent, sour, salty and fried food items in excess.
B. Consuming alcoholic drinks in excess.
C. Eating hot food items such as peas, kulith (horse gram) and garlic in excess.
D. Working in sunlight or hot atmosphere.
E. Anger
5B 2. Symptoms : Burning sensation in the stomach, thirst, giddiness, desire for cold food items and relief in the burning sensation by consuming cold food items.
Increase in intensity of the symptoms in the afternoon or midnight.

5B 3. Treatment
A. One to two teaspoonfuls of juice of amalaki twice a day.
B. Drinking juice of kushmanda (ash gourd).
C. Give juice of mehandi leaves
D. Dry black grapes should be eaten.
E. Powders of ringani, gokshuraka and roots of darbha grass.
F. Give mixture of haritaki, jiggery and ghee.
G. Juices of ushira and sugarcane.
H. A decoction of triphala and nishottara.
I. Nishottara powder should be taken with eranda (castor) oil.
J. A decoction of bitter snakegourd, triphala, kadunimba and guduchi should be taken.
K. A decoction of dry black grapes and vasa.
L. A decoction of ringani, dorli, darbha grass, kusha grass, gokshuraka and erandamula (roots of castor).
M. Medicines useful in pittaja colic : Amalaki, triphala, shatavari, dry black grapes, yashtimadhu, vidarikanda, kushmanda (ash gourd), mehandi, juice of trunapanchamula, gambhari and sandalwood.
N. Purgatives
Triphala, nishottara, kutaki and haritaki should be taken.

A. Cereals : Rice, wheat and yava (barley)
B. Vegetables : Kamalakanda (tuber of lotus), stalk of lotus and shingada (water chestnut)
C. Milk products : Milk and ghee
D. Meat : Meat of rabbit, common quail
E. Fruits : Dry grapes, dates, amalaki and pomegranate
F. Water stored in silver or copper vessel.
G. Sweet, bitter and astringent food items.
H. Harmful diet
Pungent, sour, salty, oily and fermented food items.
5C. Kaphaja colic
5C 1. Causes
A. Eating sweet, sour or salty food items in excess.
B. Eating crabs, fish, curdled milk, til (sesame) or food items which increase kapha.
C. Laziness, no activity and excessive sleep.
5C 2. Symptoms
A. Loss of taste, nausea, vomiting, cough, heaviness in the stomach, heaviness in the head
B. Pain aggravated after eating in the morning, in winter and spring.
5C 3. Treatment
A. Powders of madanaphala and kadunimba with sugarcane juice to induce vomiting.
B. Juice of mahalunga and radish.
C. Powders of pippali, pippalimula, chavya, chitrak, ginger, saindhav, sauvarchala and bidalavan.
D. Powders of haritaki, indrayava and pushkaramula.
E. Powders of vacha and ativisha
F. Mixture of ginger, til and jaggery in milk.
G. Powders of asafoetida, haritaki, vacha and vidanga with hot water.
H. Ash of gokshuraka, erandmula, chitrak, conch and punarnava with water.
I. 120 mg. of shankha bhasma 4 times a day.
J. 120 mg. of lavanabhaskara churna 4 times a day.
K. 120 mg. of hingashtaka churna 4 times a day with hot water.
L. Medicines useful in kaphaja shula (Pain)
Pippali, pippalimula, indrayava, devadaru, patha, vacha, asafoetida, pepper, ginger, pushakarmula, bhallataka (marking nut), katphala, ativisha and mahalunga.
5C 4. Diet : Wheat more than a year old, yava (barley), garlic, honey and dry, pungent, bitter and astringent food items are beneficial.
5D. Tridoshaja (sannipatik shula)
5D 1. Cause
Increase in or vitiation of vata, pitta as well as kapha dosha.
5D 2. Symptoms
Symptoms of vataja, pittaja as well as kaphaja shula appear simultaneously or alternately.
5D 3. Treatment
A. Induction of sweating : Fomentation at the site of pain.
B. Induction of vomiting : Administer madanaphala powder with warm water.
C. Fasting
D. Purgatives : Powder of triphala or nishottara.
E. Medicines
1. Powders of shankha bhasma, saindhav, asafoetida, ginger, pepper and pippali should be taken.
2. Powders of kushmanda (ash gourd), pomegranate, ginger, pepper, pippali and saindhav should be taken with hot water.
3. Triphala churna should be taken with loha bhasma (iron salt).
4. Juices of mahalunga and shatavari should be taken.
5. Powders of ginger, asafoetida, sauvarchala and eranda (castor) oil should be taken.
6. Powders of pippali, nishottara and bidalavan should be taken.
7. Powders of haritaki and garlic with jaggery and ghee should be taken.
8. Powders of ginger, haritaki, pippali, nishottara & agnimantha should be taken.
9. Powders of vacha, ginger, sajjikshara and asafoetida should be taken.
10. Powders of vacha, sajjikshara, asafoetida, ginger, kushtha and indrayava should be taken.
11. Powder of vacha, sajjikshar, asafoetida, indrayava.
12. Powders of ajamoda (celery), vacha, kushtha, amlavetas, saindhav, sajjikshara, haritaki, ginger, pepper, pippali, musta and sauvarchala should be taken.
13. Powders of shankha bhasma, karanja seeds, asafoetida, cumin seeds, shahajire, ginger, pepper & pippali should be taken.
14. Pain relieving kanji : Rice kanji medicated with pippali, pippalimula, chavya, chitrak and ginger should be taken.It relieves pain and aggrevates hunger.
15. Soup of mung (green gram), kulith (horse gram) and popped rice medicated with saindhav, coriander, cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger and bidalavan should be taken.
5D 4. Diet : Rice kanji, mung dal water, kulith soup, yava (barley), popped rice, milk, ghee, buttermilk, honey, pomegranate juice and lemon juice.
Spices : Garlic, coriander, cumin seeds, ginger, asafoetida, fennel seed, ushira and cloves.
Vegetables : Karela (bitter gourd), chakvat, snake gourd, suran (yam) and kushmanda (ash gourd).
