1. Dhapu Bhil gave birth to a baby boy on 11 July. After delivery, she was shifted to Ummed Hospital the same day due to anaemia (a deficiency of red blood cells) and other complications. She was initially transfused with O-positive blood, which matched her blood group. However, on the night of 12 July, when she required another transfusion, she was mistakenly given B-positive blood.
2. According to her family members, she developed severe shivering immediately after the transfusion. Blood then appeared in her urine collection bag, which was a sign of an incompatible blood transfusion. Her condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to kidney failure. They also said that she stopped passing urine and suffered bleeding. She was subsequently shifted to the ICU of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
3. Dhapu’s husband, Kishanaram, has alleged that the hospital did not inform the family why she was being shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. The fact that she had been given the wrong blood group was also concealed from them.
Confusion due to identical names at the hospital
According to hospital sources, two women admitted to the hospital had the same name, and their husbands also had identical names. One of the women had a B-positive blood group, due to which the staff may have mistakenly transfused the wrong blood.
