106 members from 36 Tharu families in Uttarakhand re-enter Hinduism

Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand) – The process of members of the Tharu tribe returning to Sanatan Dharma is continuing in Kutri village in the Khatima area. Here, 106 members from 36 Tharu families who had embraced Christianity voluntarily re-entered Sanatan Dharma according to Vedic traditions. Earlier, 70 people from the same village had also re-entered Hinduism. The programme was organised in the presence of village head Deepa Devi. On the occasion, Pandit Harish Joshi and Sadhu Mohan Giri performed a purification havan and yajna with the chanting of Vedic mantras.

Conversions had taken place 10 to 12 years ago

According to local residents, 10 to 12 years ago, several Tharu families in the village were converted by being lured with inducements or deceived. Thereafter, they began regularly attending prayer meetings, reading Christian books and wearing crosses around their necks. They also stopped worshipping Hindu Deities, applying tilak and sandalwood paste, and accepting prasad. The families have now voluntarily expressed their desire to return to Sanatan Dharma. They also appealed to others in the area not to fall prey to anyone’s inducements and convert, and to remain connected with their own cultural heritage.
