Opposition by Hindus after John Ajmeri sang a qawwali at a bhajan event

Ajmer (Rajasthan) – During a bhajan sandhya organized on the occasion of Chaitra Navratri in the Shastrinagar area, bhajan singer John Ajmeri suddenly sang a qawwali. This led to strong objections from the Hindus present. He later faced similar opposition at another program and eventually had to leave midway.

1. On March 21, during a jagran in the Nagara area near Alwar Gate, John Ajmeri, while singing bhajans, started performing the qawwali “Dulha Bana Hai Mera Khwaja Ajmer Ki Nagri” related to Khwaja Garib Nawaz. People present at the event objected, saying it was not in line with religious traditions. As the opposition grew, mediation was done to control the situation, and the program somehow continued. Information about the incident reached members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

2. On March 22, when John Ajmeri arrived to perform at a bhajan event at Ganeshgarh Temple in Shastrinagar, activists from Bajrang Dal reached the venue and raised objections. Due to the protest, the atmosphere became tense, and Ajmeri had to leave the stage. The program resumed after he left.

3. Kishan Gurjar, an office-bearer of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said that such performances hurt religious sentiments and that traditions of religious programs should be respected. He added that despite the earlier incident, attempting a similar performance again was unacceptable.

Editorial Perspective

It is shameful for Hindus who invite such performers to bhajan programs, as singing a qawwali in a Hindu religious event is seen as inappropriate.
