Pakistan attacks hospital in Afghanistan; 400 killed

Kabul (Afghanistan) – Pakistan carried out airstrikes using fighter jets around midnight on 16 March, targeting multiple locations in Kabul, including the Omid Hospital. More than 400 people were killed and around 250 seriously injured. At the time of the attack, approximately 2,000 people were present in the hospital. With many injured in critical condition, the death toll is feared to rise. Following the attack, the Taliban reacted strongly and adopted a tough stance against Pakistan. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated clearly that “the time for talks is over; now we will take revenge on Pakistan.”

Pakistan denies targeting hospital

According to Afghanistan, explosions were heard in several areas including Darul Aman, Arzan Qimat, Khair Khana, and around Kabul International Airport. The Taliban condemned the attack strongly, calling it “a crime against humanity.” Spokesperson for Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Mosharraf Zaidi, said that no hospital in Kabul was targeted. According to Pakistan, the strikes were aimed only at military bases, technical equipment storage sites, and weapons depots in Kabul and Nangarhar Province, with the sole objective of destroying military infrastructure, not civilian institutions. (If the attack was carried out on such stockpiles, then how did so many people die? Pakistan must answer this. Since Pakistan is ‘the most dishonest country in the world,’ no truth can be expected from it! – Editor)

Suhel Shaheen

Senior Taliban leader Suhail Shaheen stated that after the attack on the Kabul hospital, nothing remains hidden. He said the world can now see how patients and their relatives were killed in the bombing. Serious violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty; India criticises Pakistan

India reacted strongly, stating that the attack is a serious violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and poses a direct threat to regional peace and stability. India also raised concerns about the timing of the attack during the holy month of Ramadan, calling the incident deeply alarming. India’s statement emphasized that no religion or moral value can justify deliberately targeting hospitals and patients.

India urged the international community to ensure that those responsible are punished and that attacks on civilians are stopped immediately. It also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan calls for UN investigation

Rashid Khan

Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan strongly condemned the Pakistani attacks. In a post on X, he said, ‘I am deeply saddened by the latest reports of civilian casualties as a result of Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul. Targeting civilian homes, educational facilities or medical infrastructure, either intentional or by mistake, is a war crime. The sheer disregard for human lives, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, is sickening and deeply concerning. It will only fuel division and hatred. I call upon the UN and other human rights agencies to thoroughly investigate this latest atrocity and hold the perpetrators to account (sic).’

Editorial Perspective

India has faced multiple attacks by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, yet India has never declared an intention to take revenge.
