New Delhi – A report released by the ‘Open Doors’ organisation claims to document persecution and attacks on Christians in 2025 under its study titled ‘World Watch List 2026’. The report ranks India 12th among 15 countries described as most dangerous for Christians. The report has been criticised as ideologically biased and accused of deliberately ignoring ground realities.

Mr Francois Gautier

It is argued that India is a civilised Nation where all major religions, including Christianity, freely exist and flourish through institutions and public participation.

Sanatan Prabhat had a discussion with French journalist and author Mr Francois Gautier, who has been living in India for the past 35 years. Mr Gautier said, “I am married to an Indian Hindu woman. In India, I have never been attacked or persecuted as a Christian. I have also never witnessed any atrocities being committed against any Christian. On the other hand, what I have seen is that Christian missionaries who have come to India use Western financial aid to offer money to poor Hindus and carry out religious conversion. This is extremely unethical, and conversions are carried out by displaying fake miracles”.

To establish Christian dominance, the narrative of ‘we are being persecuted’ is used as a weapon

Mr Gautier said he has studied Indian history very closely and has also written books on it. Francis Xavier, as well as other Catholic Christians, committed extreme atrocities on Hindus as well as Muslims. In Goa, Hindus were massacred through the ‘Inquisition’. Hindu girls were forcibly married off to Portuguese soldiers. This is never mentioned. “I have established a museum in Pune, which provides pictorial documentation of the atrocities committed by the Portuguese on Hindus. Despite the BJP being in power in Goa for many years, not a single museum has been established there that bears testimony to the atrocities committed by the Portuguese on Hindus. Such reports are a fabricated conspiracy designed to defame Hindus. In any country, Christians use the narrative of ‘we are being persecuted’ as a weapon to establish their dominance.
