Amritsar (Punjab) – An incident of desecration of images of Hindu deities by a turbaned individual has come to light in Amritsar. In a video that has gone viral, the accused can be seen hitting the images of the deities with footwear and spitting on them. The video has triggered widespread public outrage. A young man confronted the accused and slapped him, following which the accused attempted to seek forgiveness. Hindu leaders have demanded strict action against the offender.
Acting promptly, Amritsar Police registered a case against the accused for hurting Hindu religious sentiments and arrested him. In this matter, Sachin Mahindra, President of the All-India Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, submitted a memorandum to the police demanding stringent action against the accused. The accused has been identified as Harjeet Singh alias Guddu. Police are conducting further investigation in the case.
