Six Hindu houses set ablaze across four Bangladesh cities

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Six Hindu houses were burnt down in four cities of Bangladesh in the last two days. Five Hindus were injured in separate incidents in four cities, namely Jhalakathi, Lakshmipur, Sylhet and Chittagong, one of whom is in critical condition. This is the 13th incident of Hindu houses being set on fire in Bangladesh in a month.

1. Bijoy, a victim from Jhalakathi, says that when we go out, there is a risk of attacks; but now we Hindus are not even safe in our own homes. Where shall we go ? For the past one and a half years, everyday has been under the shadow of fear.

2. Mitali from Lakshmipur said that she was suddenly disturbed by a noise last night. There was a crowd of Muslim youth standing outside. The children started crying in fear. The crowd set fire to the houses. We immediately ran out of the house. Now there is no place left to rest our heads. We are staying at our relative’s place.

3. Sylhet businessman Prasannajit said that the Police and the administration are not even ready to take our records. The Government did not make any arrangements for us to stay after the house was burnt.

Usual soft reaction from India

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the interim Government of Bangladesh should take steps to stop the violence. (India has been expressing similar reactions for the last one and a half years; but this has not had any effect on the Yunus Government and the Muslims of Bangladesh. One cannot expect that this will have any effect on them in the future. India is expressing reactions just for the sake of expressing. This is shameful for Hindus – Editor).
