
Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) — Three fishermen from Rameswaram were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy mid-sea near Neduntheevu in the early hours of Sunday (December 28, 2025). Their trawler was impounded. Police said the seized trawler was among the 335 mechanised boats which left Mandapam fishing jetty on Saturday. The boat with three fishermen on board — A. Amostin, 25, and S. John Das, 38 of Thangachimadam, Paraloga Sebastian, 26, of Mandapam — was intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy on charges
The apprehension of Tamil Nadu fishermen and their fishing vessels by the Sri Lankan authorities continues unabated with alarming frequency. This has led to a severe disruption of the fishermen’s livelihoods. A total of 248 fishing boats and 61 fishermen from Tamil Nadu are in Sri Lankan custody.
