Tension in Kerala Convent School as a Muslim Girl Goes With ‘Hijab’

Two days holiday declared by School

(Hijab is a cloth worn by Muslim women to cover their head and neck)

Kochi (Kerala) –  A girl student studying in eighth standard in St. Rita Public School at Palluruthy created tension by going to school with ‘hijab’. The school, therefore, declared holiday on 13th and 14th October 2025.

The school head mistress sister Helena Arsi has issued  a letter stating –

1. One student started wearing a ‘hijab’ instead of a school uniform. The parents of the girl created hue and cry in the school, claiming it to be their religious right when the school management objected to it and stopped the girl at the entrance of the school.

2. The behaviour of the girl student and her parents created mental tension for some teachers and other students. As a result, after holding discussions with the parent-teachers association, it was decided to keep the school closed for two days. An officer from the education department also visited the school and conducted an inquiry into the matter.

Tension created due to members of ‘Social Democratic Party of India’

One of the members of the parents-teachers association, Joshi Kaithavalappil stated that the school has had the same uniform for the past thirty years and students of all religions follow the rule. The concerned student also followed the rule for four months; but from 10.10.2025, she started covering her head and the school didn’t allow her. Her parents insisted that she should be allowed to wear ‘hijab’. They came to the school with a few people and started creating a ruckus and video-shooting in the school which caused fear among the other students and teachers. The matter aggravated due to the support of the people associated with the ‘Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI)’. (Editorial Perspective : SDPI is a political wing of the banned organisation, viz. ‘Popular Front of India (PFI)’. It shows that now, even SDPI needs to be banned. )

Wearing ‘Hijab’ is our right – Girl’s father

The girl’s father informed that his daughter has been studying in this school since this year. Earlier, the school didn’t allow covering of head in the class; but now, it is being stopped at the school entrance. It is affecting equality. It is our right. A complaint has been lodged with the district education officer and the concerned minister. We will send her to another school if the school doesn’t allow her to cover her head. (Editorial Perspective : It is necessary to tell him that Kerala is not in Pakistan. Will they leave the country if they are not allowed to use ‘Hijab’ and other Islamic garbs in this country, is a question.)

Editorial Perspective

These people know only their rights but not their duties towards the country; therefore, they don’t do anything for the country. India was divided based on the matter of religion and Muslims were given Pakistan. People feel that Muslims, who stayed back in India, should be sent to Pakistan for their rights.
