New Delhi – A storm has erupted after Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai made remarks perceived as insulting to Hindu deities, hurting Hindu sentiments worldwide. The Global Hindu Heritage Foundation (GHHF) condemned his statement as “inappropriate, unsolicited, insensitive, and derogatory,” asserting that it amounted to mockery of Hindu Dharma. The Foundation demanded: either the Chief Justice resigns on moral grounds or Parliament initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

Judges with anti-Hindu bias have no right to sit in the Supreme Court – GHHF

The petitioner had exhausted all other avenues before finally approaching the Supreme Court. Even then, despite the Archaeological Survey of India’s clear inaction, the CJI redirected the petitioner back to the ASI. This was unjust.
- The proper course would have been for the court to order the ASI to take immediate steps. Failing to do so reflects bias, hostility toward Hindu deities, or deliberate insensitivity to Hindu sentiments.
- The Indian Constitution grants every citizen the right to practice and propagate their religion. A plea to reinstall a broken deity is not just an emotional appeal, but a constitutionally valid demand.
- If a judge holds negative views against Hindus, he should recuse himself and transfer the matter to another bench but not pass insulting comments.
- The Chief Justice must immediately withdraw his words and publicly apologize to Hindus.
- If he refuses, Parliament should proceed with impeachment under constitutional process. Judges with anti-Hindu leanings are unfit to remain in the Supreme Court.
What is the case about ?

Petitioner Rakesh Dalal had filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking the installation of a new idol of Lord Vishnu at the Vaman (Jwari) temple in Khajuraho, Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, after the earlier idol was found broken. He submitted that for decades, applications, appeals, and even protests were ignored by authorities.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Gavai reportedly said: “If you call yourself a devotee of Lord Vishnu, then go ask your God to do something about it.” He refused to even consider the petition.
