Apology from the Vice-Chancellor of a University in Udaipur, who called Aurangzeb the ‘best administrator’

Sunita Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur,

Udaipur (Rajasthan) –  During the conference titled ‘Indian Knowledge System: A Roadmap to Developed India 2047’, Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Sunita Mishra described Mughal ruler Aurangzeb as the ‘best administrator’. After a lot of criticism, she apologized.

1. In a conference held on September 12, Mishra had said that Aurangzeb was the best as an administrator. At this time, he compared Maharana Pratap and Prithviraj Chauhan to Akbar. Mishra’s remarks sparked intense protests by the students. They burnt his effigy and blackened his photograph and demanded his resignation. Along with this, his office was locked from outside for several hours.

2. ABVP, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sangh and some other organisations had written a letter to the governor opposing Mishra in this regard.

3. “In my speech at the International Conference in Udaipur, I described Aurangzeb as an “able ruler”. This hurt the sentiments of the followers of Maharana Pratap and the Rajput community. It’s my fault. It was never my intention to insult this land or its heroes.  I apologise to Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, the people of Mewar in Rajasthan and especially the Rajput community for my mistake.

4. Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Premchand Bairwa has also taken cognizance of the matter and said that ‘action will be taken on the basis of the district  collector’s report’.

Editorial Perspective

Now will the apology end Aurangzeb’s glorification made in front of the audience ? Such statements of the Vice-Chancellor always overshadow India’s glorious history at the international level and harm the future generations of India ! Therefore, it is necessary to relieve such Vice-Chancellors !
