New Delhi – Abir Gulaal, starring actress Vaani Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, was released worldwide on September 12th everywhere except India. The UK-based group Indian Stories Ltd. had announced plans to release the film in Indian theatres on September 26th. However, India’s Press Information Bureau has officially stated on its X (formerly Twitter) handle that the film will not be released in the country. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir; where Hindu tourists were killed after being identified by their religion; India imposed a ban on Pakistani artists and their films.

Film Federation also refuses screening

B.N. Tiwari, President of the Film Federation, dismissed reports of a possible release, stating, “Even if the producers wish to screen this film, we will not allow it to be shown.” He further emphasized that the Film Federation has consistently opposed Pakistani artists: “If a Fawad Khan film is released in India, both we and the film industry will oppose it.

The president of the ‘Federation of Western India Cine Employees’ is B.N. Tiwari.

We will appeal to theatre owners not to screen such a film. Pakistan continues to act against India’s interests. Allowing films with Pakistani actors would be an insult to our nation.” He added that considering the Pahalgam terror attack and the need to uphold national pride and dignity, releasing this film in India would be a grave affront. “We strongly oppose it and will ensure that it is not released here,” Tiwari said.
