Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Sharadiya Navratri is arriving soon and Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor in the Interim Government of Bangladesh, has made a statement that hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus. Chowdhury said that ganja and alcohol are found in Durga Puja fairs. Therefore, big fairs will not be held during this time. Pro-Hindu organizations strongly opposed this statement, saying that this statement is an attack on their faith. They feel unsafe due to such attitude of the Government. Chowdhury’s statement is ‘offensive’ and ‘provocative’.

Pro-Hindus said that Durga Puja is a symbol of our faith and culture. Linking it with intoxication is an insult. The Government’s decision to fix the immersion time at 7 p.m. is an interference in religious freedom. We are being deprived of our right to faith, as well as our right to expression.

33,000 Durga Puja pandals to be set up in Bangladesh this year

This year, 33,000 Durga Puja pandals will be set up across the country. The Government has assured that Police and Rapid Action Force personnel would be present at all the locations. However, Hindus say the memories of last year’s attacks on Durga Puja pandals are still afresh.

Editorial Perspective

This is an example of how the Interim Government of Bangladesh crushes the religious sentiments of Hindus. This will continue until India intervenes to help the Hindus of Bangladesh.
