Colombo (Sri Lanka) – When Sri Lankan leaders mocked India over import duties by the US, their MP Harsha D’Silva slammed them reminding the help India had extended during Sri Lanka’s crisis. He added, “India had hoped that the US would reduce import duties and so did Sri Lanka, however some of the Sri Lankan leaders are using sarcastic language. India is our true friend and India’s patience is an inspiration to entire Asia.
In the year 2022 Sri Lanka was facing financial crisis and India had helped them with $5 billion (Rs.4.38 lakh crore) in aid. This aid included medicines, food, fuel, cash loans etc. During that time China or other countries did not help much. The US has imposed 20% tariff on Sri Lankan goods effective 7th August, 2025.
Editorial PerspectiveThe Indian government must now decide whether to continue helping ungrateful countries that not only lack appreciation for India’s assistance but even mock India. |
