I want to sincerely thank you all ! – Shubhanshu Shukla

Before reaching the space station, the astronauts were in communication with the Florida Control Centre when Shubhanshu Shukla greeted everyone with ‘Namaskar’ and said, “I am very excited to be here with my colleagues. I was not feeling very well when we took off. I slept a lot which is a good sign. I am acclimatising with this atmosphere. I am like a small boy trying to learn how to walk and eat in space. I want to thank everyone who has been associated with this journey. I know that it is not a job of an individual but it is a collective success of all of you who have joined this journey. I want to thank even my family and friends whose support is also very important. You all have made everything possible. We showed you ‘Joy and Grace’.

I am holding a Swan, the symbol of knowledge in Indian culture !

Shubhanshu said further that I have a replica of a swan in my hand, it looks very cute; but it is a symbol of knowledge in Indian culture. I think even in Poland and Hungary, like India, it has a symbolic importance which may look like a coincidence; but it is not, its meaning is deeper than this.

How earth looks from space ?

Shubhanshu added that the space journey is like a dream for me. When I looked at earth after taking off in space, I felt as if a painter had created a big canvass mixing blue and green colours. The experience of entering micro-gravitational force (space where gravitational force of earth is minimal) is funny.

I saw the Sun’s radiance and stars through the window. It was unbelievable for me. I also joked with my colleagues; did a few ‘Yogasanas’. It is a bit difficult to drink water with a straw from a pouch but that too is quite amusing.
