Hearing stayed till June
Mumbai – Mumbai High Court gave clear instructions on loudspeakers on mosques that there was no need to take law in hand in this matter. State Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla and Home Department’s Chief Secretary, Anup Kumar Singh submitted affidavits in high court on the petition of contempt of court. They sought extension of time for submitting an interim report while giving information on the action taken in the matter. They have been granted extension of time by the Bench of Justice Alok Aradhye and Justice Makarand Karnik and stayed the hearing till June 2025.
As per the information given by DGP Rashmi Shukla, out of 2,940 loudspeakers found over mosques in the State during the investigations, 2,812 loudspeakers were illegal. Out of the illegal loudspeakers, 343 have been removed while 831 have been legalised. In this connection, 49 special Police teams have been formed in the State to take necessary action and create awareness on the issue.
Since 2016, Mumbai High Court has issued clear instructions 38 times and expressed displeasure over the delay by the State Government in taking action.
