Prohibition on use of loudspeakers exceeding prescribed noise levels at religious places in Delhi !

New Delhi – The Delhi Police has issued revised guidelines concerning the use of loudspeakers at religious places. As per the new directive, the volume of loudspeakers must not exceed the prescribed noise level standards. Additionally, prior permission from the police is now mandatory for installing loudspeakers at any location. The use of loudspeakers or public address systems in public places is strictly prohibited without prior police permission. This requirement also applies to loudspeaker usage in tented camps. Any violation of these regulations will attract a fine of ₹10,000 and confiscation of the equipment involved.

Advisory by Delhi Police

1. In industrial areas, the permissible noise limit has been set at 75 decibels between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and 70 decibels between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

2. In residential areas, the permissible noise limit is set at 55 decibels between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and 45 decibels between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

3. In silence zones, the permissible noise limit is set at 50 decibels between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and 40 decibels between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
