Attack on Hanuman Jayanti procession from inside a masjid in Guna (Madhya Pradesh)

  • BJP municipal corporator among several injured

  • Clash sparked over loud DJ system in front of the masjid

Guna (Madhya Pradesh) – On 12 April, a procession was carried out in honour of Hanuman Jayanti. In the Karnalganj area, a dispute erupted over the use of a loud DJ sound system near a masjid, following which Muslims launched an attack from inside the masjid on the passing procession. Stones were pelted at the participants, injuring several Hindus.

The procession was led by BJP municipal corporator Gabbar Kushwaha, who along with his son and several others sustained injuries. All are currently undergoing treatment in hospital. The area remains tense but under control.

Guna Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Sinha stated that the procession was carried out forcibly without official permission. As the procession passed near the Karnalganj masjid, slogans were raised by both groups and stone-pelting ensued, injuring a few people. Police were dispatched immediately and brought the situation under control within 15–20 minutes. Based on video footage, identification of culprits is underway. The situation is stable, and the public has been urged not to believe in rumours.

Hindu organisations protest outside Police station

Following the attack, enraged Hindu organisations and local Hindus staged a road blockade at Karnalganj Chowk and gheraoed the city Police station, raising slogans and demanding strict action against the Muslim attackers involved in the stone-pelting.

Case filed against Tajiya Committee President

After BJP corporator Gabbar Kushwaha filed a complaint at the city Police station against the religiously motivated Muslim assailants, Police registered a case. The accused include Yusuf Khan, President of the Tajiya Committee, and others, charged with stone-pelting and inciting communal violence.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Even after over 20 years of BJP rule in Madhya Pradesh, Hindus still expect a deterrent strong enough to prevent religious fanatics from daring such attacks.
  • A clear protocol must now be enforced: whenever Hindu religious processions pass near a masjid, thorough inspections and heavy Police deployment must be mandatory.
