Hanumanji participated in the Dharma-yuddha in various Eras and thus protected Dharma

On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti (12th April)

1. Hanumanji protected the monkey army during the Dharma-yuddha between Shriram and Ravan in Tretayug

In the Dharma-yuddha (The battle to protect Righteousness) that took place in Sri Lanka in the Tretayug, the mighty demon warriors like Atikay, Narantak, Devantaka, Prahasta, Indrajit, who had illusory powers, attacked the monkey army, and warriors of Dharma such as Sugriva, Angad, Vibhishan, Lakshman with many destructive and deadly weapons; but Hanumanji did not allow them to reach the monkey army, by blocking them with His body, and thus, rendered them ineffective.

2. Hanumanji protected the Pandavs during the Mahabharata war between the Kauravs and Pandavs in Dwaparyug

Before the commencement of the Mahabharata war, Shrikrushna asked Hanumanji to be present in subtle form on Arjun’s chariot. Hence, Hanumanji took a subtle form in Arjun’s Kapidhwaja. In the Mahabharata war, great charioteers like Bhishmacharya, Dronacharya, Karna and Ashwatthama unleashed deadly and destructive Divine weapons at Arjun; but by Shrikrushna’s grace, Arjun was not harmed. Hanumanji, who was seated in the subtle form on the chariot, blocked all the Divine weapons for some time. After the 18-day war, when Shrikrushna and Arjun got down from the chariot and when Hanumanji left the chariot on the orders of Shrikrushna and appeared before Arjun, Hanumanji released the blocked Divine weapons. It caused a huge explosion in Arjun’s chariot and it was blown to pieces.

3. The Deity of worship of the Saints in Kaliyug

A. Samartha Ramdas Swami : Samartha Ramdas Swami had instated 11 Deity Hanuman in temples to spiritually strengthen Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Hindavi Swarajya.

B. Sant Tulsidas : Sant Tulsidas also worshipped Hanumanji. It was due to Hanumanji’s grace that Sant Tulsidas had a direct vision of Shriram, Lakshman and Seeta on 3 occasions. Some Pandits (Intellectuals) of Kashi were opponents of Sant Tulsidas. They sent negative energy with the help of a Tantrik (People who appease negative energies as part of their spiritual practice) to destroy Sant Tulsidas. Saint Tulsidas was protected by Hanumanji’s grace.

C. Sant Vidyaranya Swami : National Sant Vidyaranya Swami, who moulded Emperors Hakkarai and Bukkarai, has also praised Hanumanji and explained the importance of His five-faced form.

Other qualities of Hanumanji

1. Music expert : Hanumanji obtained the knowledge of music from Sage Narad. He could also play the Veena. He sings devotional hymns of Shriram by playing the cymbals and chipalya (A wooden musical instrument).

2. Mastery of Sanskrut and grammar : Hanumanji is very talented and has deep knowledge of Sanskrut grammar. When He first met Shriram and Lakshman near Pampa lake at the foot of the Rishyamukh mountain range, He assumed the form of a royal priest. He spontaneously conversed with Shriram and Lakshman in Sanskrut. This shows His mastery over Sanskrut.

3. Master of Ashtamahasiddhi : Hanumanji is the master of Ashtamahasiddhis such as Garima, Laghima, Mahima, etc.
