Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has personally appealed to all communities to disregard rumours.

1. Additional Director General of Police for South Bengal, Supratim Sarkar, said that intelligence reports suggest a conspiracy to spread unrest in the name of Ramnavami. (No one ever attacks during Muharram processions or Eid celebrations; but attacks happen only on Hindu religious processions, why is that ? Will secularists, progressives, and those who preach religious harmony answer this ? – Editor) Security has been increased to prevent any untoward incidents.

2. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has issued an order stating that no one should carry weapons during Ramnavami processions. (Hindus never carry weapons; but those who always do are never acted upon by the Police – Editor)

4. Recently, in Mothabari in Malda, violence broke out during a rehearsal procession for Ramnavami. The Police did not allow BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari to reach the spot.

Will retaliate if attacked – BJP warns

“If attacks are carried out on Ramnavami processions, Hindus will not stay silent. We will respond,” warned the BJP.

Editorial Perspective

Hindus should demand that Police search every mosque along the Ramnavami procession routes and deploy security personnel there, not just in Bengal, but across the country to prevent attacks by religious fanatic Muslims near these locations.
