Oh my Bhagwan, Ram, it’s You
Clouds ascend on thunderclouds,
Darkest looms the distant shroud.
Lightning laughs — like crocodiles’ teeth,
Storm-winds howl from underneath.
Whirls of dust rake trees and all,
Oceans swell and heed the call.
Doom is near, the sky bends low,
As blurred the eyes, faint visions grow.
Awe commands the breathless air,
Sabres slash in cloudy lair.
No rain, no hail — just roaring fear,
As if the end of time draws near.
But—Golly! What breaks the spell?
A bow of colour begins to swell!
Like stairs from the sky’s dark frown,
Two divine feet are shining down.
Then sunny yellow floods the grey,
An unearthly blue lights the way.
A lotus-garland gleams anew—
Oh my Bhagwan, Ram, it’s You!
It’s Your Navami today!
Now I read the signs that stay
Behind the clouds, behind the gloom
Gee! I hear the sacred tune:
_Raamaaya Raamabhadraaya Raamachandraaya Vedhase, Raghunaathaaya Naathaaya Seetaayaah Pataye Namah!_
