Prime Minister Modi brought up the matter

Colombo (Sri Lanka) – During his visit to Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need to address the fishermen’s issue from a humanitarian standpoint. Before concluding his visit and returning to India, Sri Lanka released 11 Indian fishermen from custody.
The issue of fishermen was a major focus of the talks between Prime Minister Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake. Regarding this issue, Prime Minister Modi had said that we also discussed issues related to the livelihood of fishermen.We insisted on the immediate release of the fishermen and their boats.
Disputes over fishermen have been a longstanding issue between Sri Lanka and India. On multiple occasions, the Sri Lankan Navy has used force against Indian fishermen in the Palk Strait.
