Prohibition enforced in 17 sacred towns across Madhya Pradesh

Selling meat, fish and eggs banned in Maihar during Hindu festivals

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – In view of Chaitra Navratri and other major Hindu festivals, the Madhya Pradesh Government has announced a ban on meat sales in several cities. As per the Government’s decision, liquor shops in 17 sacred towns will be permanently shut from 1 April 2025. Authorities have warned that violators will not be spared.

The administration has imposed a ban on the sale of meat, fish and eggs in Maihar, the sacred town of Mother Shri Sheetladevi, during the Chaitra Navratri Mela held between 30 March and 7 April 2025. Sub-Divisional Officer Vikas Singh stated that the decision was made to honour devotees’ faith and maintain a religious atmosphere.

Additionally, meat shops in Bhopal and Indore will remain closed on Shri Ram Navami (6 April), Mahavir Jayanti (10 April) and Buddha Purnima (12 May). This decision was taken following the request of BJP leader Rakesh Singh and local MLAs.

Editorial Perspective

Such bans must be implemented in all religious and sacred towns across the country, and their strict enforcement is equally essential. The administration and Police must remain vigilant for this purpose.
