The spiritual significance of Indian Classical dance !

Scientific research conducted by Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay

The rhythmic vibrations created by Indian Classical dance have the power to awaken the Deity with their touch. Therefore, the jiva (embodied soul) doing spiritual practice through the medium of dance can achieve God-realisation rapidly. Painting, music, dance and all art forms are God’s creation. Therefore, experiencing God that is Bliss, is the ultimate goal of all these arts. On behalf of

Mr. Ashish Sawant using the U.A.S. device for the experiment

Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay extensive research has been done regarding Indian Classical dance; as well as Western dance.

Scientific research was conducted with the ‘UAS (Universal Aura Scanner)’ to study the effect of performing dance, on the aura of that individual. With this device, negative and positive energy auras of objects, premises and individuals can be measured.

The Universal Aura Scanner (UAS) was developed in 2005 by Dr. Mannem Murthy, a former nuclear scientist from Telengana. By using this instrument the energy and the aura of an object, a premises, an animal or an individual can be measured.

The observations of this study are given next

1. Observations of the study

Negative Energy Aura (Metre) Positive Energy Aura (Metre)
Before dance After dance Before dance After dance
A. Performing the ‘Salsa’ – Western dance
1. First individual  6.10 11.74 2.42 0
2. Second individual 4.72 15.70 3.28 0
A.   Performing the ‘Belly dance’ – Western dance
1. First individual  5.75 18.32 1.55 0
2. Second individual 4.54 14.24 1.60 0
C. Performing ‘Bharatanatyam’ – Indian Classical dance
1. First individual  4.90 1.55 3.05 5.94
2. Second individual  2.65 0 4.20 6.45
D. Performing ‘Kathak’ – Indian Classical dance
1. First individual 10.89 4.35 1.63 4.87
2. Second individual 5.16  3.02 3.76 6.44

It is noted from the above table that the negative energy aura of the individuals reduced or was nullified and their positive energy aura increased to a large extent after they performed Indian Classical dance. On the contrary, after they performed Western dance, their positive energy aura was nullified and their negative energy aura increased to a large extent.

2. Conclusion : From this, it is understood that by performing Indian Classical dance, the individual’s subtle-energy is positively affected and after Western dance, the subtle-energy is negatively affected.

3. Distressing vibrations are emitted from Western dance : There is no spiritual backing for different types of Western dances. These dance forms and the related components (for example, dress, hair-style, make-up, accompanying Western music etc.) being non-Sattvik, distressing vibrations were emitted from them. After performing the dance, the participants faced distress like physical fatigue, headache, thought blocks etc.

4. Sattvik vibrations being emitted from Indian Classical dance : Indian Classical dance has a spiritual basis. Dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kathak and others, have Sattvik costumes, hairstyles, make-up and accompanying Sattvik Classical music incorporated in them. The postures of these dances, as well as the postures of the hands, are Sattvik and rhythmical. Since these dances are based on stories of Deities or with Deities Themselves, the dancer has a Sattvik emotion in his mind reflecting on the face. As through dance, the dancer seeks to connect with God, he or she has spiritual experiences as per the spiritual emotion (bhav). From Sattvik dance, Sattvik vibrations are emitted. Therefore, the dancer and the one watching the dance are spiritually benefitted. The individuals participating in the Indian Classical dance are sattvik hence said, ‘While dancing, they experienced the Deity’s presence. Also, they had a vision of the Deity in the subtle.’
