Threat to gouge out eyes if anyone eyes Waqf Board’s property : TMC MP Bapi Halder

Kolkata / New Delhi – Muslims have the right to Waqf Board’s properties. If anyone tries to eye these properties, their eyes will be gouged out and limbs will be broken, threatened MP Bapi Halder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) elected from Mathurapur constituency in Bengal, in a rally.  He also added that it was his and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s responsibility to protect Waqf Board’s properties in the State.

‘Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind refutes the statement

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind’s secretary Maulana Niyaz Farooqui has strongly objected to MP Halder’s statement. He said that Halder should use appropriate language. What does he mean by gouging out eyes ? Nobody has a right to do such things. If he has said it, it is totally wrong. The Government is responsible for the riots staged at Murshidabad in Bengal against Waqf Law. It is the responsibility of the local Governments to ensure that wherever there is opposition to this law, it is expressed in a peaceful manner. It is also the responsibility of CM Mamata Banerjee. It has led to deployment of the Central Security Force there.

Editorial Perspective

What else, other than violence, can be expected in a State where MPs of the ruling party openly threaten in a public programme ? Why are the fake political parties claiming to have the responsibility of protecting the Constitution not saying anything about such a threat ? Do they feel that the Constitution has conferred rights on TMC to resort to violence ?
