Four more arrested after Nagpur Deputy Director of Education

Nagpur – In a large-scale scam involving fake ‘Shalarth IDs’, unqualified teachers and non- teaching staff were fraudulently employed in schools under the Nagpur education department, resulting in Government fraud amounting to crores of rupees. Earlier, Ulhas Narad, Deputy Director of Education for the Nagpur division, was arrested in Gadchiroli in connection with the case. Suspended Pay and Provident Fund Superintendent Nilesh Waghmare was also taken into custody.

Now, three more officials from the Deputy Director’s office have been arrested: Nilesh Meshram, Superintendent of Secondary Education; Sanjay Dudhalkar, Deputy Education Inspector; and Suraj Naik, Senior Clerk.

Since 2019, bogus appointments of primary teachers and non-teaching staff have been made in various schools in Nagpur district. Salaries were disbursed in the names of approximately 580 fake employees. The scam came to light during verification of discrepancies on the Shalarth portal. Ulhas Narad is specifically accused of approving headmaster posts for ineligible individuals based on forged documents.
