The USA suspends aid to Bangladesh

Washington (USA) – The President of the United States has decided to stop the aid given by the United States to other countries. This includes Bangladesh as well. The United States has stopped the aid to all countries except Israel and Egypt. This also includes the health aid given to poor countries.

Following this decision, the United States Agency for International Development has issued guidelines to close all projects in Bangladesh. It states that any grants, cooperative agreements, or other assistance provided under the Bangladesh Agreement are being ordered to be immediately suspended or terminated.

Bangladesh’s economic situation may deteriorate

Experts say that Bangladesh’s economic situation will further deteriorate after the US sanctions. Crises such as a constantly increasing budget deficit, dwindling foreign exchange reserves, a falling currency value and rising income inequality have already created difficulties for Bangladesh. More than a million people have become unemployed since Sheikh Hasina was ousted. The economic crisis has brought industries to a standstill. A large part of Bangladesh’s population may face severe drought.
