1. The Bombay High Court had issued an order in August 2016 regarding action against loudspeakers illegally installed at religious places; however, Santosh Pachlag, a citizen of Navi Mumbai, had brought to the notice of the Court through a contempt petition that it was not being followed.
2. The petitioner also told the Court that details of 2,940 illegal loudspeakers installed at various religious places across the State were given in the RTI. A bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Amit Borkar took note of it and ordered the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department and the Director General of Police to submit details of what action was taken against the illegal loudspeakers.
3. The petitioners also told the Court that the Azaan continues through loudspeakers in mosques in Navi Mumbai at around 5:30 a.m. Petitioner Pachalag alleged that the rules are not being followed in other religious places as well.
