Fake jobs scam : About 650 Indians trapped in Cambodia

Phnom Penh (Cambodia) – More than 650 Indians landed in Cambodia on the fake promise of job opportunities in the IT industry are forced to participate in illegal cyber activities. The Indian Consulate in Cambodia has been trying for their release and return. The Indian Consulate has informed about its efforts to release and send the trapped Indians back to India.

These Indians were promised legitimate employment opportunities, but on arrival in Cambodia, they were lured and coerced into participating in illegal cyber activities.

So far, 14 Indians have been rescued

The Indian Consulate has warned Indians to be careful about getting any job in Cambodia and in case of a suspicion, they should immediately inform the Consulate.

How the job scam exposed ?

A case has been filed after a Central Government employee lodged a complaint and the scam was exposed. This employee filed a complaint in the matter on 31stDecember 2023. He has complained of incurring a loss of Rs 67 lakhs. Later, eight persons were arrested in Cambodia in this context.
