Sheikh Hasina Govt failed to prevent attacks on Hindus
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – After the general elections held in Bangladesh in January 2024, Sheikh Hasina Government has failed to stop the attacks on minority Hindus by local religious fanatics.
1. Hindus voted for Sheikh Hasina’s ‘Awami League’ Party. Hindus were attacked during the election period and the attacks are going on even after Sheikh Hasina’s party formed the Government which has created terror amongst Hindus.
2. Hindu organisations have claimed that three attacks on Hindus are reported daily post the elections; especially in six Districts viz. Kushtia, Bagerhat, Jhenaidah, Gaibandha, Chatgaon, and Silhat.
3. Ranjan Karmakar, a member of ‘Hindu Buddhist, Christian Oikya Parishad’ (Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council) felt that the attacks on minorities and temples are a cause of concern. Many fanatic organisations are getting bolder since no action is being taken against them. Strict action needs to be taken against the guilty to prevent such attacks in future.
Some of the attacks which took place in the last 3 months
1. Vandalising of Barabanal Temple in Sitakunda at Chatgaon
2. Theft of ornaments by breaking into Shri Kali Mandir at Moulvi Bazar and breaking of the idol
3. Throttling a lady-priest to death in the Sadar sub-District of Gopalganj and stealing gold ornaments from Devi Temple
4. Many idols were desecrated by a youth in an attack on Shri Kalimata Mandir in Sirajganj
5. Attack on Radha-Govinda Sevashram in Barisal
Editorial Perspective
Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, has good relations with the Indian Government; but that has not helped Hindus in Bangladesh. It is disgraceful for India that the condition of Hindus there is deteriorating day by day. |
