Naga People’s Front (NPF) registered strong opposition to the mandatory recitation of the patriotic song Vande Mataram in educational institutions and the State Assembly. In a statement, NPF called the Centre’s directive regarding Vande Mataram ‘a direct threat to Naga culture and faith.
As per reports, the NPF released a press statement from its central headquarters in Kohima, claiming that the move is “alien and unfriendly” to the people of the state, which has a Christian-majority population.
The Nagaland Government has banned the ‘Go-Dhwaja Sthapana Yatra’ which demanded a ban on cow slaughter, citing disturbance of public peace.
Back in 2015, Pope Francis himself had tweeted on similar lines. Thus, it is expected that Government should probe into such claimed ‘prosperity’ and unmask the truth.
