Nagaland Government denies entry to Shankaracharya
Dimapur (Nagaland) – The Nagaland Government has banned the ‘Go-Dhwaja Sthapana Yatra’ which demanded a ban on cow slaughter, citing disturbance of public peace. The order has been given by the Police Commissioner’s office in Dimapur. The ban is applicable in Dimapur, Chumukedima and Newland Districts.
Many Naga organisations have strongly opposed the ‘G-Dhwaja Sthapana Yatra’ to be held on September 28 in the capital Kohima. This yatra is organised in support of nationwide ban on cow slaughter. However, the Yatra is said to be a threat to the cultural and social harmony of the region.

Why was I stopped : Asks Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteswarananda
Earlier on September 25, when Swami Avimukteswaranand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peetha, went to install the Go-Dhwaja in Nagaland, the Government denied him entry. (Why do the crusaders of freedom and democracy not talk about this ? – Editor). Shankaracharya expressed displeasure about this. He said, “I have not harmed anyone or spoken ill of anyone. I just want to convey my message to people. Why was I stopped ? Chief Ministers of north-eastern States should not obstruct my tour. They can discuss issues they find problematic related to cow slaughter and cow conservation.”
The Naga Students’ Federation condemned Shankaracharya’s proposed visit, saying it was an insult to the social and cultural lineage of the Naga people. The act challenges the rights granted to the Naga people under Article 371A of the Constitution, which protects the traditions and religious practices of the Naga people.
