Kathmandu (Nepal) – Nepali police have arrested Durga Prasai in connection with a violent protest by protesters demanding the restoration of the monarchy in the country. The protest took place on March 8. Police arrested Durga Prasai along with his bodyguard in Jhapa District at the Indian border.

1. Earlier, more than 60 people, including Rashtriya Prajatantra Party general secretary Dhaval Shamsher Rana and Vice President Ravindra Mishra, were arrested for participating in the protest.

2. On the orders of the Kathmandu District Court, the police have initiated legal proceedings against them under ‘State Offences and Organised Crime’ and have sent them to judicial custody.

3. Two people, including a journalist, were killed in violence in Nepal last month. The violence took place during a demand to restore monarchy in Nepal.

4. The protesters claim that restoring a constitutional monarchy and the Hindu Rashtra is the solution to the country’s problems. The 240-year-old monarchy in Nepal came to an end in 2008. Currently, the demand to bring back the monarchy has again gained momentum.
