The film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’ portrays the history of Indian armed revolution

The film’s director, producer and actor Randeep Hooda provided the information

Mumbai – “I did not make the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’ to delve into the history of Congress. I have made this film to clearly show Savarkar’s circumstances and the conditions under which his ideology evolved. I have made a film that portrays the history of the armed revolution. Armed revolution was against Gandhiji’s ideology and I think we should separate Gandhiji and Congress,” said Randeep Hooda, director, producer, and actor of the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’ in an interview.

Very brief information about revolutionaries in history

Actor Hooda remarked, “When I was approached for the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’, I thought, I know history but when I started reading it again, there was only one paragraph on armed revolution in the entire history book. Vasudev Balwant Phadke, Tilak, Chapekar brothers, Khudiram Bose, Anant Kanhere, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Bose, Gadar Party members, Shyamji Varma, Madam Cama, among thousands of others, who believed in armed revolution, why are these people not so important in our history ? Nothing was written about them.

Indira Gandhi had said, “Savarkar was a courageous freedom fighter, and his contribution to the freedom movement is significant”

Savarkar is being called a ‘Mafiveer’. When asked about this, Randeep Hooda expressed, ” I find this deeply troubling. As I mentioned in an interview, when someone denigrates Savarkar in such a manner, it feels like a slap in the face. How can one deny that Savarkar was not a hero of the freedom struggle ? His (Rahul Gandhi’s) grandmother (Indira Gandhi), while commenting on Savarkarji’s demise, stated, ‘He (Savarkar) was an incredibly courageous freedom fighter, and his contribution to the freedom movement is immense. His ideologies will continue to influence future generations.’ Indira Gandhi even commemorated him with a postal stamp. So, does Rahul Gandhi possess more knowledge than his grandmother ?”

Richard Attenborough’s film ‘Gandhi’ did not feature Savarkar

Following the release of the trailer for the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar,’ there has been criticism regarding the alleged insult to Mahatma Gandhi. Responding to this, Hooda clarified, “I am not insulting Gandhiji, but rather, this film focuses on Savarkar and aims to convey his ideologies. Unlike Richard Attenborough’s film on Gandhi, which did not feature Savarkar, I have meticulously produced this film. In our freedom struggle, different freedom fighters held varying perspectives about individuals. Bhagat Singh had his differences from Gandhiji, Gandhiji differed from Subhash Chandra Bose, and Subhashji had distinctions from others. So they always had differences but they also had some things in common.”

More films will be produced on Veer Savarkar and other revolutionaries – Ranjit Savarkar

Ranjit Savarkar, the grandson of Swatantryaveer Savarkar and President of the ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak,’ has commended Randeep Hooda for his performance in the film. He expressed, “I had numerous discussions with Randeep regarding the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar.’ He has shown great dedication to his work. He underwent a significant transformation, losing 30 kilograms for this role. Films play a crucial role in preserving historical events. It is imperative to produce more films about Veer Savarkar and other freedom fighters to educate the youth about history. Films serve as a medium through which history can be conveyed to the new generation. I hope more films are made on Veer Savarkar and other revolutionaries.”
