Tumkur (Karnataka) – In Nittur Village, Gubbi sub-division of Tumkuru District, a 800-year-old chariot of Shri Kalleshwara Swami Devasthan, from Chola Era, was burnt down by unknown miscreants on 12th March. This is a C-Grade temple in the list of Charity Accounts. A religious Fair will begin on 20th March. This incident happened just before the preparations for the Fair. An individual from North India has been arrested in this connection.

State Co-ordinator of Karnataka Devsthan, Muth and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh, Mr Mohan Gowda has issued a statement that this is a very serious incident, and an investigation is required to know who the culprits are, their intention and the conspiracy behind this. Culprits should be arrested quickly. The Government collects tax from the temples but does not provide protection. This is utterly unacceptable. During Temple Fairs protection must be provided.

Editorial Perspective

Temples are insecure in Karnataka. One can only hope that by now Hindus have learnt their lesson.
