Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan

Kolkata (Bengal) – The Calcutta High Court has issued an arrest order against Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who is accused of sexually exploiting Hindu women in Sandeshkhali. Sheikh has been absconding for several days.

1. The Court questioned why the Police are not taking action against Sheikh Shahjahan, expressing concern if there is a restraint on his arrest despite being the main accused in a registered case of sexual exploitation. The court emphasized the immediate arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan in such a scenario.

2. A petitioner urged the High Court to form an independent committee for investigating the case. In response, the Court agreed to do so, but insisted on the presence of the State Government, Police, CBI, and ED representatives in Court.

3. Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates, Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar, face accusations of gang rape in this case. The Police have already arrested 18 individuals, including Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar, in connection with the incident.

TMC leader’s house attacked

The residence of Trinamool Congress leader Shankar Sardar in Sandeshkhali was vandalised as local Hindu women reportedly carried out an attack. Prior to this incident, Trinamool leader Ajit Maity was subjected to an assault where he was beaten with slippers.

Editorial Perspective

The High Court’s order reflects poorly on the State Government’s handling of the situation and underscores the deteriorating law and order situation in Bengal. The only viable solution to address this issue is to invoke President’s rule in the State !
