Darul-Uloom-Deoband issues new fatwa acknowledging Gazwa-e-Hind

Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) – In the new fatwa issued by ‘Darul-Uloom-Deoband’, an Islamic Educational Institution, it has acknowledged the creation of ‘Gazwa-e-Hind’. The fatwa says, “People, who die in an attack on India, will be called great martyrs, and they will go to heaven.” The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken note of this fatwa on its own and issued a notice to the Saharanpur Police Officer asking to take action against this fatwa. It has also asked the Police to submit a report, within fifteen days, on the action taken by them.

A question was asked on the website of ‘Darul-Uloom-Deoband’ whether there was a reference in ‘Hadees (a collection of Prophet Mohammad’s actions and what he said in a particular situation)’ about attacks on India in this continent and will a person who dies in the attack be called a great martyr ? Also, will the Ghazi (warrior fighting for Islam) attain heaven ?

Answering this question, Darul Uloom has stated in its fatwa, taking reference to the book ‘Sunan-al-Nasa’ that there is a full chapter on ‘Gazwa-e-Hind’. Referring to Hazrat Abu Hubaidah’s ‘Hadees’, it is said, “Allah’s messenger promised to attack India. He had said, “I will give up myself and my property for this purpose if I remain alive. I will be the greatest martyr.” It has been stated in this fatwa that the book was published by Deoband’s ‘Mukhtar & Co.’.

In the notice issued by NCPCR, it is stated that the Madarasa is imparting anti-India knowledge to children. It would encourage religious fanaticism, creating hatred amongst children about the country. Troubling small children unnecessarily or causing physical distress to them is a crime under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Police had not taken any action against the controversial fatwa issued earlier

Earlier in 2022, and 2023, NCPCR had demanded filing charges against the controversial fatwas issued by Darul-Uloom, but no action was taken by the Police. The NCPCR warned that in such a situation, the District Administration will be equally responsible if any untoward incident occurs due to the new fatwa.

Editorial Perspective

• Uttar Pradesh is ruled by the BJP, it is, therefore, not expected by Hindu Police and Administration to remain indifferent.
• Considering the history and present activities of ‘Darul-Uloom-Deoband’, it will be better to impose a ban on such an educational institution for its anti-India and anti-Hindu activities. Hindus need to put pressure on the Union and State Governments and make them take necessary action.
