Muslim side’s appeal heard for 1.5 hrs in the Allahabad High Court

  • The case of permission to Hindus to perform puja at the Gyanvapi basement
  • Next hearing on 15th February

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) – Muslim side’s appeal  against permission to perform puja at the Gyanvapi basement was heard in the Allahabad High Court. The advocate of the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee (which manages Gyanvpai mosque in Varanasi) and the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board, presented their sides in the matter. Now the Hindu side will be heard on 15th February. The Allahabad High Court has not stayed the order of permitting the puja in the basement while the matter is being heard.

The Muslim side in its arguments said that the Vyas basement was never in the possession of the Hindus. The claim of the Hindu side that the basement was in their possession is absolutely false. In the Babri case, only one individual, on behalf of the Nirmohi Akhada, had asked for the right to perform puja; but the Court had not granted it to him. (Please note how conveniently the Muslim side ignores the fact that eventually, the verdict in the Babri case was in favour of the Hindu side. – Editor). The District Judge should have asked how Vyas family can claim rights to ask for permission to perform puja ?’ The District Judge instead of giving his decision on this matter, directly ordered to perform the puja in the Gyanvapi basement.
