‘Lipstick-Free School Campus’ campaign launched in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – A campaign aimed at keeping school campuses free from cosmetic products has been launched in Kollam district. The initiative began at Mayyanad Higher Secondary School, which has now been declared the district’s first ‘Lipstick-Free Campus’.

The campaign, launched by the Kerala Child Welfare Committee, aims to protect female students from the chemical substances used in cosmetic products and to create awareness among girls about their harmful effects. The initiative seeks to protect them from the risk of skin diseases.

One of the most harmful things for the environment !

While inaugurating the ‘Lipstick-Free Campus’ campaign, poet Kuripuzha Sreekumar said that every person is naturally beautiful, so there is no need for cosmetic products. He added that inner beauty is more important than outward appearance. He further remarked that cosmetics, along with perfumes, are among the most harmful things for the environment.

Cancer risk due to chemical-laden cosmetic products

According to a warning issued by the State Health Department, inexpensive cosmetic products available in the market contain toxic heavy metals, which may cause intestinal cancer in children. These toxic chemicals have been found in commonly used lipsticks, while dangerous substances such as mercury and cadmium have been detected in makeup kits and other cosmetic products used by female students.
