Protesters express support for India

Srinagar (J&K) – The protests that began in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir over soaring inflation and a sharp rise in wheat prices have now shifted towards demands for political rights. Until now, the people there had been troubled by electricity and ration-related charges; however, Kashmiri residents are now calling upon Pakistan to leave the region. The public has also begun strongly resisting repression by the Pakistani military.
A public meeting was recently held in Rawalakot. Leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee and the Awami Action Committee accused Pakistan of blocking the supply of essential goods and exploiting the region’s resources. They also alleged that Pakistan was obstructing economic transactions with India. According to the protesters, if Pakistan is unable to provide economic support and essential daily commodities, trade routes with India should be opened.
Aman, one of the protest leaders, stated that the movement would continue and would ultimately reach Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
