Muslims also among the leading accused in atrocities against Dalits in Uttar Pradesh over the past four months

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – In the State, the highest number of cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been against members of the Yadav community, with 2,160 cases recorded. Muslims rank second, with 1,983 cases. In addition, 1,601 persons from the Brahmin community and 1,698 persons from the Kshatriya community have also been named as accused in such cases.

4,741 cases and 14,672 accused in four months

Between January and April 2026, a total of 4,741 cases were registered under the Act. Following investigations, a total of 14,672 individuals were named as accused. These figures have been compiled on the basis of reports received from all districts and divisions across the State. The statistics are based on officially recorded criminal cases.
