A Shivalinga also found
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Centuries-old Shri Vishnu Idol has been found in the River Krishna in a village in Raichur District. The Idol’s prabhavala (the circular plate forming the back of the Idol) has a carving of the Dashavataras of Shri Vishnu (the 10 incarnations of Shri Vishnu). Besides this Idol, a Shivalinga was found. It is being said that both are about 100 years old. Shri Vishnu Idol which has been found in the River Krishna is similar to Ayodhya’s Shriramlalla Idol. Shri Vishnu Idol and the Shivalinga are now under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India.
‘The Idol found in the waters of the river must have been installed in a temple. It must have been immersed in the river to protect it from the Islamic invasion’ – Prof Dr Padmaja Desai, Raichur University.
