Kolkata – A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was attacked near Trinamool Congress (TMS) leader Shahjahan Sheikh’s house in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. The ED team had gone there to raid Sheikh’s house in connection with the ration distribution scam. At that time, more than 200 people attacked ED officials and accompanying CAPF soldiers. The mob also vandalised the vehicles of Government officials. No casualties have been reported in this incident yet.

Shahjahan Sheikh is a ‘don’of Sandeshkhali: Rahul Sinha, BJP leader
Reacting to the attack on the ED team, former BJP West Bengal State President Rahul Sinha said, “Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh is a ‘don’ of Sandeshkhali area. He is involved in several murder cases. Police are not taking any action against him as he is a TMC leader. We condemn this incident and demand action.”

State President of BJP Sukant Majumdar said, “The way the ED team was attacked in Sandeshkhali today shows that Rohingya Muslims are infiltrating into West Bengal and disrupting law and order in the State. This will not only happen with ED but also with Bengalis in the future. As long as the present Government is in power, this will continue to happen.”

On 14th October 2023, the investigation team arrested Rehman, the owner of a flour and rice mill, in connection with this ration distribution scam. He was later sent to judicial custody. West Bengal minister Jyotipriya Mallick was also arrested in connection with the scam.
