Washington (USA) – The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has urged the Biden administration to designate India as a ‘country of particular concern’ citing attacks on the religious freedom of minorities in India. Despite repeated anti-India recommendations by this organisation, the Biden Government has not taken any action against India. The Indian embassy in the USA has not responded to this yet but the Indian Government has consistently denied such allegations.
The USCIRF said that the Indian Government has made efforts to target minorities of the Indian origin residing abroad. It recommended to designate India as a ‘country of particular concern’. Stephen Schneck, Commissioner of USCIRF, said that the killing of Khalistani terrorist Nijjar Singh in Canada and attempted attack on Gurpatwant Singh Pannun are ‘deeply concerning’.
🚨USCIRF is alarmed by India’s increased transnational targeting of religious minorities and those advocating on their behalf. USCIRF implores the @StateDept to designate #India a Country of Particular Concern (#CPC). https://t.co/ozyTeFQ0eJ
