Dehradun (Uttarakhand) – Non-Muslim children are studying the Islamic curriculum in 30 madarasas in the State. Information about 749 such students has been obtained and the majority of Hindu students are among them; that too, more in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Haridwar Districts of Uttarakhand. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to Uttarakhand Madarasa Education Board (UMEB) on the 2nd of November 2023 asking for a reply by the 9th of November 2023. In a report prepared by this council, it is stated that the total number of students studying in madarasas is 7,399 out of which, 749 are non-Muslim children, studying in 30 different madarasas. This report was presented by Rajendra Singh, Director, UMEB. It has also been stated in the report that the concerned madarasas are teaching the NCERT curriculum and permission from the parents of those students was obtained.
Closure of five madarasas – CM Pushkar Singh Dhami
The State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that instructions were issued earlier to conduct an inquiry into madarasas and five madarasas have been closed down after the inquiry. The non-Muslim students studying in madarasas will be sent to other schools and under what circumstances, those students were admitted to madarasas will also be investigated.
