Imphal (Manipur) – The Centre has planned to put a 100 km long fence along the Myanmar border close to Manipur and is likely complete it by December 2023. There is a plan to put similar fences along the border of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram close to Myanmar. As per the information, terrorist organisations and drug traffickers based in Myanmar are associated with the violence in Manipur. They are active on the border especially in Moreh. The Moreh Myanmar border has a free movement facility of up to 15 km on both sides. This facility is also about to get cancelled.

Editorial perspective

There is no guarantee that putting up a fence will stop the infiltration of terrorists from Myanmar. The security forces will have be always alert.
