Unidentified persons place ancient Idol at Bhojashala, MP

Bhopal (MP) – Security has been significantly heightened at the historic Bhojshala site in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, following an attempt by an unidentified group to install an 11th-century statue of the revered Hindu Goddess Saraswati. This incident unfolded on Sunday night. The Archaeological Survey of India has declared that the site is protected and safe.

Bhojshala was constructed by Raja Bhoj and later came under Mughal control, ultimately becoming the property of the Muslim community. Since then, it has been a part of their shared history. Hindus believe Bhojshala is the temple of Vagdevi (Shri Saraswati Devi), while Muslims regard it as Kamal Maula Masjid.

Hindu activists have been protesting for years to remove any encroachments on the site. This incident is said to have stemmed from that very issue. There used to be an Idol of Shri Saraswati Devi in Bhojshala, which was taken abroad. Hindus have been urging the Government to bring back this Idol.

Editorial Viewpoint

Hindus believe that since Bhojshala is an ancient temple of Shri Saraswati Devi, it should be returned to the Hindus. The BJP-led Union and State Governments must make efforts to relocate the mosque from the site to address this longstanding issue and preserve the site’s historical and religious significance.
