New Delhi – Satellite images have revealed that China is building underground bunkers, tunnels and other facilities on a ridge along the bank of a river in ‘Aksai Chin’. Reportedly, these will be used to deploy soldiers and store armaments. Defence experts say that China is trying to safeguard itself against a potential Indian offensive.

1. Geospatial experts said that 11 bunkers can be seen on both sides of the river in satellite images. Camps are being set up there. Construction has been in full swing at this location for the last few months.

2. The road along the centre of the valley has been widened. Photographs also show that soil is placed around the camps to protect against direct attacks. Entry and exit points of camps are strategically designed to minimise the impact of bombing.

3. Sameer Joshi, CEO of NewSpace Research and Technologies, said that China’s decision to increase construction along the ridges is likely a response to India’s growing capabilities. China appears to be working on setting up camps, building bunkers and widening roads to reduce the potential threat from India. China is preparing against air strikes or military action from India.

Editorial Viewpoints

  • Aksai Chin is a part of India but China has gained control over it. India should make efforts to integrate Aksai Chin back into its territory.
  • It is well known to the world that India will never initiate aggression against China. Hence, it is evident that China’s fortification efforts are not to safeguard itself, but to prepare for a potential attack on India.
