Imphal (Manipur) – The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) an Imphal based organisation’ has demanded PM Modi to enforce the NRC in Manipur so that the illegal immigrants involved in the drug smuggling trade in the State can be identified.
“To identify illegal immigrants, the National Register of Citizens must be implemented in the state with 1951 as the base year. This is to deprive illegal immigrants of being citizens though they may continue to stay as guests, if necessary, without indulging in destructive politics,” the memorandum read.
They have requested that the administration of the Government of Manipur should not be changed. Similarly an independent administration system should not be given to the Kuki people.
The memorandum also requests that the Government along with the some of the leaders of ‘Kuki –Zhomi Suspension Groups’ identify the foreign elements and deport them to Myanmar.

It is being alleged that the illegal immigrants from Myanmar have a role in the Manipur violence. Given this fact the Government should seriously consider the demand made by the COCOMI. |
